Bioness Treatment

Bioness NESS L300 Foot Drop System

The NESS L300 is an advanced functional electrical stimulation (FES) system that sends low-level electrical impulses to the common peroneal nerve in your leg, stimulating muscles to lift your foot. The NESS L300 automatically senses your foot position as you are walking and the terrain as it changes. It also adjusts to your walking speed. Therefore, the NESS L300 may assist your gait (a manner of walking) following an upper motor neuron injury or disease, such as:

  • Stroke
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Traumatic brain injury
  • Incomplete spinal cord injury
  • Cerebral Palsy

The NESS L300 offers a variety of advantages for people with foot drop and may:

  • Provide close to natural movement when walking
  • Increase speed, stability, and social participation
  • Reeducate muscles to function without the system
  • Prevent muscle loss (often called atrophy)
  • Maintain or increase range of motion in the ankle and foot
  • Increase local blood flow

Bioness NESS H200 Hand Rehabilitation System

The NESS H200 is a state-of-the-art functional electrical stimulation (FES) system that uses low-level stimulation to help your hand open and close. Customizable stimulation programs may help you perform daily activities and also reeducate the muscles over time. The NESS H200 may help you regain function in your hand and wrist if your condition is due to any of the following:

  • Stroke
  • Traumatic brain injury
  • Spinal cord injury
  • Certain neurological disorders

Beyond helping movement in your hand and wrist, the NESS H200 may also:

  • Improve active hand range of motion and function
  • Reeducate muscles to function without the system
  • Reduce muscle spasms
  • Increase local blood circulation
  • Prevent muscle loss (often called atrophy)

After your initial prescription for physical therapy is completed, your physician and physical therapist will decide if you need to continue physical therapy or if you will be discharged to a home exercise program.
